Manchester United and Newcastle United have both submitted proposals to RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko.
Sesko is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between the Premier League teams. Newcastle have stepped up their interest in signing the Slovenian striker, after Alexander Isak informed the club of his interest in exploring an exit. Liverpool are expected to table a formal offer for Isak this week.
However, Eddie Howe’s side face competition for Sesko from Manchester United. Ruben Amorim wants to add a number nine to his squad, to complete a new-look frontline alongside summer signings Matheus Cunha and Ruben Amorim.
Sesko ‘s combination of athleticism and high-potential have attracted Manchester United to the table.
Sky Germany are reporting that both side’s are in contact with Sesko’s camp. Each have discussed personal terms with the player and outlined their projects in a bid to win the race.
Offers are expected to be submitted to Leipzig imminently, with the German side demanding a fee in the region of €70m (£60.8m).
Sesko was a transfer target for Arsenal earlier in the window but the two clubs were unable to reach an agreement.
The Gunners instead turned their attention to Viktor Gyokeres, completing the signing of the Sporting striker for £64m over the weekend.
Sesko remains keen to leave Leipzig for the Premier League, after two impressive campaigns in Germany. The 6ft 5in forward scored 21 goals in all competitions last season despite a disappointing collective campaign at the Red Bull Arena.
Newcastle are pushing hard to sign Sesko, while the Magpies also remain interested in Brentford’s Yoane Wissa. The club are keen to sign two forwards before the transfer deadline.
