Manchester City are on the brink of making their wonderful 2022/23 campaign a truly historic one for the club.

With the Premier League title and FA Cup already secured, City are now just one win in Istanbul away from winning their first ever UEFA Champions League and complete a remarkable treble.

Here's how the Pep Guardiola's side got to the precipice of history:

Group stages

Manchester City were drawn in a very difficult group this season that consisted of a Jude Bellingham-led Borussia Dortmund and future UEFA Europa League winners Sevilla, yet judging by their 14 points and the fact that they conceded just two goals in their six group games you probably wouldn't know it.

City, as they have with most things this campaign, made rather light work of a tricky Group G, beating Sevilla home and away with an aggregate score of 7-1, and seeing off both BVB and Copenhagen at the Etihad Stadium to book their place in the knockout rounds.

Round of 16

Second leg: Manchester 7-0 RB Leipzig

After a nervy draw away in Germany in the first leg of their round of 16 clash with RB Leipzig, Manchester City went full super saiyan in the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

Their outrageous 7-0 win truly set the tone for the remainder of City's 2022/23 campaign, with the team going 18 games unbeaten after the victory.

The 7-0 win also included a record-equalling five goal haul from the brilliant Erling Haaland, who became just the third player in the history of the competition to score five in a single game.

Quarter finals

First leg: Manchester City 3-0 Bayern Munich

Second leg: Bayern Munich 1-1 Manchester City

Man City played their fifth and sixth games against German opposition of the season in the quarter finals, and they once again put in stunning showings in both ties.

In the first leg, which may go down as the 'Bernardo Silva game', Pep Guardiola's team ran riot at the Etihad Stadium. Rodri opened the scoring with a stunning long-range effort, before Silva scored a well-deserved goal and Haaland completed the scoring.

Bayern pushed hard to complete a remarkable turnaround in the second leg at the Allianz Stadium but it wasn't to be. A professional showing from City restricted the Bavarians to just one goal when they needed four.

A job well done.

Semi finals

Second leg: Manchester City 4-0 Real Madrid

During the 2021/22 Champions League season, Man City were heartbreakingly knocked out at the semi final stage by eventual winners Real Madrid.

During the 2022/23 Champions League season, Man City had the opportunity to avenge that defeat - and they did exactly that.

It wasn't all plain sailing however as Guardiola's team actually went behind in the first leg thanks to a stunning Vinicius Junior goal. The Citizens were largely under the cosh for the majority of the second half of the game at the Santiago Bernabeu too, but a brilliant long range strike from Kevin De Bruyne would ensure they would head into the second leg in a strong position.

In that second leg, City would record perhaps their most famous victory in their history, thumping the mighty 14-time champions of Europe thanks to goals from Manuel Akanji, Julian Alvarez and a brace from Bernardo Silva.
