Manchester City’s English contingent was in action overnight as Gareth Southgate’s side went down 1-nil to Brazil at Wembley. An 80th-minute strike from Brazilian prodigy Endrick was enough for Brazil to pick up the win.

There was bad news for the world champions with Kyle Walker suffering what appeared to be a hamstring injury. City’s captain had to be substituted in the 19th minute. Walker’s injury robbed the Wembley spectacle of the match up between Vinicius Junior and City’s captain. Manchester City will now be sweating on Walker’s fitness ahead of their crucial Premier League encounter with Arsenal.

The rest of Manchester City’s English contingent got through the game unscathed as England went down to Brazil. John Stones did his job for England as he looked like England’s best defender throughout the game. Stones was assured on the ball and calm in possession in a polished display from the defender.

Phil Foden played well for Gareth Southgate’s side. He started on the wing and was one of Gareth Southgate’s teams’ most dangerous players in the first half. He was moved centrally in the second half and didn’t have as much influence in a midfield role.

Manchester City’s English contingent are next in action for their country when England take on Belgium next week before they return to Manchester to begin preparations for City’s clash with Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Jokso Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic both started for Croatia in their nil all draw with Tunisia. Croatia would win the game 5-4 on penalties at the Cairo International Stadium. Their penalty shootout win sets up a final against Egypt in the Capital Cup, which is hosted by Egypt.

Josko Gvardiol put in an assured performance at the back for his country. Playing in the centre of defence, he looked right at home in a polished performance.

Mateo Kovacic got through 68 minutes before he was substituted. Kovacic continued his strong recent form as he looked to sew up a spot in Pep Guardiola’s lineup for the business end of the season.

It was a mixed night for Manchester City’s stars overnight. The biggest news is the injury suffered by Kyle Walker. The world champions will now be hoping that there are no more injuries over the international break after the apparent hamstring injury suffered by their captain.
