With the football on hold at the moment, weâve been thinking about who gets in Manchester Cityâs all-time XI.
Yesterday we chose Aymeric Laporte as the first centre-back. Today weâre choosing his partner.
Here are the nominees âŠ
Lescott joined City from Everton during the period of time which came after the Abu Dhabi investment but before the silverware started rolling in.
During the first half of his first season at the club he played alongside Kolo Toure in central defence but he later formed a solid partnership with Vincent Kompany which provided the foundation for Roberto Manciniâs 2011 FA Cup winning and 2012 Premier League winning sides.
The England defender won four major trophies during his five years at the Etihad and fully justified his ÂŁ22m price-tag in the end.
The title of Doyleâs 2004 biography was âBlue Bloodâ, which probably tells you all you need to know about what kind of City defender he was.
A City fan from birth, Doyle joined the club as a youngster and made his senior debut in 1965.
He went on to play almost 450 games for the club and lifted five major trophies in a blue shirt.
But what perhaps endeared him to he Maine Road faithful the most was the fact he hated rivals Manchester United just as much as they did.
His grandson Tommy made his first-team debut for City in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, keeping the blue bloodline going for another generation.
It had to be him, didnât it?
City fans could never have known when Kompany joined for a cut-price fee from Hamburg in 2008 that they were looking a future club legend.
The Belgian took some time to settle in Manchester but the city soon became his adopted home, and it was in the second half of the 2010/11 season that he truly began to blossom into the worldâs best central defenders.
He headed home the only goal in a crunch derby against Manchester United towards the end of the 2012 season and after lifting the clubâs first Premier League title that year, he would lift three more along with six other major honours before leaving last summer at the end of his 10th season.
But not before scoring one of the greatest goals in Cityâs history as a parting gift âŠ
Hereâs to you Vincent Kompany, City loves you more than you will know.
Hereâs how the team is looking so far âŠ
GK: Bert Trautmann RB: Pablo Zabaleta LB: Glyn Pardoe CB: Aymeric Laporte CB: Vincent Kompany
