Rodri scored the only goal as Manchester City won a first Champions League and completed an historic treble on Saturday.
Scorer: Rodri 68′
There was no repeat of the incredible start to last week’s FA Cup final, with almost half an hour played before the game’s first big chance.
Bernardo Silva did go close with a dinked effort from a tight angle early on and Ederson almost handed Inter an opportunity with an iffy moment in the air but it was Erling Haaland who had the only effort of note in the first-half, forcing a strong save from André Onana after a smart through ball from De Bruyne with just under half an hour played.
Unfortunately for City they were just finding their stride as De Bruyne was forced off through injury (in a second successive Champions League final appearance) on the 35-minute mark and Phil Foden on in his place.
The second half has started with a little more attacking ambition from City but the first proper chance fell to Inter, with Ederson getting out quickly to deny Lautaro Martínez, now supported by Romelu Lukaku on from the bench, from a tight angle.
From then on, though, City were camped in the Inter half and they made the pressure count through Rodri.
The Spaniard arrived just inside the Inter area with perfect timing and found the corner with a perfectly controlled strike to put Pep Guardiola’s ahead.
But it was almost level within two minutes, with Inter pushing forward immediately and Federico Di Marco hitting the bar with a looping header before his rebound struck team-mate Lukaku.
The Belgian was next to test Ederson himself with a low drive but the City keeper was equal to the effort.
An opener always helps a tight game open up and Phil Foden was next to go close, forcing a smart save from Onana after a driving run through the centre of the pitch.
With just two minutes remaining, Romelu Lukaku found himself free just five yards from goal but his header struck Ederson’s leg on the line as the Premier League champions held on into added time.
Five additional minutes passed with Ederson saving a late header from a corner to see City seal a famous win and the treble, becoming just the second English club to win the league title, Champions League and FA Cup in a single campaign and make Pep Guardiola the first manager to win the treble with two different clubs as he ends a 12-year wait to win a third Champions League.
