Manchester City kick-off their pre-season tour when they take on Borussia Dortmund in Chicago on Friday, and Pep Guardiola’s side will be looking a little different than usual.
For one match only, the Etihad Airways sponsor’s logo on the front of City’s shirts will be replaced by an advertisement for the Special Olympics World Games, which will be held in Abu Dhabi in 2019.
Over 7,000 athletes from 170 countries will gather in Abu Dhabi for the biennial event next year.
This will be the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics and coincidentally, the first ever staging was held at Soldier Field – the venue of City’s ICC fixture with Dortmund.
And it looks like the numbers printed on the back of City’s shirts for their pre-season tour of the United States will be a tribute to a famous mosaic on display at Manchester Town Hall.
The numbers are designed to look like the floor of the Town Hall and will also feature a bee – a symbol of the industrial revolution which took place in Manchester around the turn of the 19th century.
