Etihad Stadium officials may have identified a new potential replacement to the seemingly outgoing Ederson ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian is believed to be open to the idea of an exit from Manchester City this summer as he seeks a new challenge for the final years of his top-level playing career, with Saudi Arabia known to be long-standing admirers of the 31-year-old.

Clubs in the Middle-East showed a keen interest in signing Ederson last summer, only to be held back by disagreements over their valuation of the goalkeeper, with Manchester City standing firm on a £50 million price tag.

But with that interest still seemingly standing and City open to an exit providing it comes on their terms, work has begun on sourcing a direct replacement for the number one role between the posts in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Recent reports have largely focussed on the profile of FC Porto and Portugal international Diogo Costa, with Manchester City’s incoming director of football Hugo Viana having a good relationship with his super-agent, Jorge Mendes.

Now, new indications from Italy are tying the four-in-a-row Premier League champions with interest in one of Europe’s very best who has continued to impress and write his own headlines throughout the course of this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign in particular.

According to the information of Sportitalia, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City are now also looking at Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

In Italy, both Inter and Juventus are named as potential suitors for the goalkeeper as well as Bayern Munich from the Bundesliga while the ‘track leads directly to Manchester City’ in the Premier League with manager Pep Guardiola a ‘true admirer’ of the former AC Milan man.

The Italy international has an interesting contractual situation around him at present with just 14 months remaining on his current deal with PSG, who are only offering between €5 million and €6 million to extend his contract which currently features a double-digit salary.

While the report does claim that the French giants could get close to €10 million in salary with bonuses factored in, they also state, ‘The impression is that PSG doesn’t give the right consideration to what Gigio has done.”

From the side of Gianluigi Donnarumma himself, it is reaffirmed that his current priority is to continue at PSG but he will not wait forever for a suitable offer, particularly given the interest in him from across the continent.

Should there be concrete interest from the Etihad Stadium in Donnarumma, it is highly unlikely that the player would have been involved in any discussions at this stage given the focus firmly being on the field and on their European exploits.

Unlike Manchester City, who crashed out of the competition prior to the last-16 stage for the first time since 2012, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Luis Enrique’s PSG side have progressed all the way to the final four of the UEFA Champions League with Inter awaiting in the Final.

Manchester City will also be hoping to seek clarity over the intentions of back-up goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno, who has long stated his desire to become a number one choice shot-stopper but continues to find himself as a support within the first-team Etihad squad.

The Germany international is believed to be attracting transfer interest from Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen, while Nottingham Forest have previously shown an admiration for the player in past markets.
