A sensational new claim has pointed towards the possibility of Manchester City making a move for one of the Premier League’s most exciting young strikers this summer.

Etihad Stadium bosses are currently tasked with finding a new back-up option for Erling Haaland in Pep Guardiola’s squad this summer following Julian Alvarez’s exit to Atletico Madrid earlier this summer.

The 24-year-old was intent on seeking guaranteed starts in the leading striker role despite the success with Manchester City over his two years at the club, completing a €95 million package deal to join Diego Simeone’s side.

As such, Txiki Begiristain and his recruitment colleagues at the Etihad Stadium have drafted up a list of potential options to support Haaland in his striking role this season, with options in Scotland and Denmark already mooted.

Now, the latest report has drawn Manchester City towards one of the Premier League’s most talented young strikers and a name that would likely lead to competition from a direct Premier League rival.

According to the information of FootballTransfers’ Steve Kay, both Manchester City and Arsenal are following the situation closely of Brighton & Hove Albion striker, Evan Ferguson and are also ready to make an offer.

It is further claimed that Brighton would want around £70 million for the Republic of Ireland international, but both Arsenal and Manchester City would prefer a loan deal before settling on a permanent price next summer.

The 19-year-old joined Brighton & Hove Albion’s youth Academy set-up in January 2021, with the south coast club beating competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool to the signing of the Bohemians graduate.

New Brighton manager, Fabian Hurtzeler has already signalled an intent to retain the young striker beyond this season however, and offered a glowing report on the player upon joining the club.

“I heard a lot of positive things about him,” said Hurzeler. “I saw a lot of positive things and we will try to help him. We try to improve him and then he can be a really good striker in the Premier League.”

Hurtzeler continued during a recent press conference, “Evan came back after a long injury, so we have to be very careful. Especially with young players who want to be on the pitch or want to be back as quick as possible.

“We need to settle them down and then do it step-by-step. But he has started training with the team and you can already see why he’s here, because he has great abilities and great skills for a striker.”
