Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez has extended his contract with the club by another 12 months.
The Argentina international signed a five-and-half-year deal when he joined the Sky Blues from River Plate last January.
He returned to his home club on a six-month loan before joining Man City in the summer.
The deal was due to run out in 2027, but Alvarez will remain with Man City until 2028.
The new contract includes increased wages to reflect his importance to the squad.
Despite largely playing second fiddle to Erling Braut Haaland, the Argentine has been a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side.
The 23-year-old has bagged ten goals and two assists in 33 games across all competitions.
It is a decent return considering that 14 of those appearances were starts.
Alvarez also won the World Cup in Qatar last year and played a huge role in Argentina’s triumph.
The Man City star scored four goals in seven games at the tournament, with three of those coming in the knockout stage.
He is arguably the best substitute striker in the Premier League.
However, it remains to be seen whether the South American will remain with Man City for long.
Alvarez would love to play more regularly, which could prove impossible with City.
He has the quality to be a starter at plenty of clubs, and suitors will come after him sooner or later.
Guardiola could find it difficult to keep such a player satisfied for a long time.
Man City will hope to hold on to Alvarez for as long as possible, and he will be keen to keep proving himself.
