Ilkay Gundogan has remained tight-lipped on his plans beyond the current campaign, as talk surrounding his Manchester City future intensifies.

The 32 year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree a new deal with Manchester City, meaning the upcoming FA Cup Final and UEFA Champions League Final could be the current City’s captain final two matches for the Sky Blues.

Gundogan has been linked with a potential move to La Liga champions Barcelona, while Manchester City are reportedly working on a deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic, with the Croatian having 12 months left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge.

The German midfielder hasn’t ruled out extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium, with a report last month claiming that Gundogan was ‘edging’ towards committing his future to Manchester City.

Gundogan was Pep Guardiola’s first ever signing at Manchester City in 2016, and the German has since made 302 appearances for the Blues and won 12 trophies.

The midfielder recently helped Manchester City to their third consecutive Premier League title, with key goals against Leeds United and Everton.

Gundogan also netted twice on a dramatic final day of the season in 2022, as City came back from 2-0 down to win the league with a stunning 3-2 victory over Aston Villa.

During the 2020/21 campaign, the 32 year-old scored 17 goals to propel City to the Premier League title.

Speaking ahead of the FA Cup Final against Manchester United on Saturday, Gundogan remained tight-lipped regarding his future with Manchester City, though admitted his “love” for the club.

“We will see what is going to happen. I honestly can’t tell you right now, we will see,” he told ITV.

“The place in my heart for Man City – there are no discussions, no question. I’ve never been seven years in a club.

“That shows how much I love it here, how much I appreciate what the club has done for me, for my family, for everyone.”

Manchester City face their local rivals Manchester United at Wembley Stadium this weekend, looking to secure their second trophy of the season after recently clinching a fifth Premier League title in six years.
