Manchester City will face Real Madrid in a mouth-watering UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 1 final tie on Sunday evening after The Cityzens defeated Kazakhstani club Tomiris-Turan 6-0 in their Round 1 semi-final in Madrid this evening.

Khadija Shaw netted a brace for Gareth Taylor’s side while Lauren Hemp, Vicky Losada and Deyna Castellanos were also on target. There was also a suspected own goal as Manchester City enjoyed one of their most comfortable nights in European competition.

Manchester City broke the deadlock with their very first chance. Hemp crossed from the left and Shaw glanced her header into the Tomiris-Turan net.

The Cityzens soon had a great opportunity to double their lead but opposition keeper Aitaj Sharifova produced a good save to deny Chloe Kelly when one-on-one.

Sharifova was then alert to keep a Shaw effort out of the net but that stop just delayed the inevitable with the Manchester City forward heading home from a Kelly cross just moments later.

Taylor’s side were to go into the break three goals to the good with Hemp tapping home from a couple of yards in first half injury time.

With the job pretty much done, there was a little less intensity to Manchester City’s second half performance. Shaw was unlucky not to complete her hat-trick early in the half while Hemp saw a goal ruled out for offside. Mary Fowler, Hayley Raso and Castellanos all then tested Sharifova but it felt as though a fourth goal wasn’t going to come.

Manchester City kept pushing and they did finally net a fourth through substitute Vicky Losada who thumped her effort into the corner of the net.

The Cityzens were then awarded a late penalty kick following a clumsy foul on Castellanos in the box. The Venezuelan international picked herself up to successfully convert from the spot. Just moments later, it got even better for Taylor’s side as they netted a sixth with help from Tomiris-Turan keeper Sharifova, although Keira Walsh may fight to get her name on the scoresheet.

Manchester City will now turn their attentions to a UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 1 final against Real Madrid on Sunday.
