Further clauses in Cole Palmer’s Chelsea transfer last summer have been revealed after the youngster made his senior England debut last week.

The Wythenshawe-born forward was labeled as one of the up and coming stars in the Manchester City academy, following in the footsteps of Phil Foden. Despite making 41 senior appearances for the Etihad outfit, Palmer chose to leave for greener pastures in the summer.

Speaking in an interview late in his time as a Manchester City player, Palmer revealed that he was keen on upping his playing time in the 2023/24 campaign, and would consider a move away if he could not get that under Pep Guardiola.

When fellow Premier League giants Chelsea offered Manchester City a transfer fee of £40 million for the 21-year-old in the summer, the deal was completed with haste and Palmer made the move south.

But that £40 million may not be all that Manchester City will receive for their former academy star after he was given his first England call up by Gareth Southgate during the November international break.

According to a recent report from the Sun, Chelsea will now need to make a further payment of £2.5 million to Manchester City after Cole Palmer’s senior England debut under Gareth Southgate against North Macedonia.

Cole Palmer is already becoming a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge, hitting the ground running in his first few months as a Chelsea player and contributing to the strides being made under Mauricio Pochettino this season.

The youngster scored the equalising goal for Chelsea in a thrilling 4-4 draw against Manchester City prior to the November international break, perhaps showing his former employer just what they are missing.

However, it appears as though some tricky financial manoeuvring has allowed Treble winners Manchester City to reap more and more rewards from Cole Palmer’s new lease on life in west London.
