Manchester City are ‘seriously considering’ moves to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson as part of a midfield overhaul.
Pep Guardiola is preparing to reenergise his squad in the summer window, with several exits expected at the Etihad. Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan are out of contract in the summer, while Jack Grealish could also move on after a disappointing period.
City are planning ahead of the summer and have set their sights on Bundesliga talent. Florian Wirtz is a top target for the Premier League champions, though there is significant competition for the German.
Wirtz was named Bundesliga Player of the Season after inspiring Leverkusen to a maiden league title last season. The 21-year-old has continued his excellent form into the current campaign with 15 goals and 11 assists across all competitions.
Leverkusen are working on a new deal for the midfielder, with the German champions aware of interest from City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. Wirtz will cost would-be suitors north of €100m.
Sky Germany are reporting that Eintracht Frankfurt youngster Larsson is also a player City admire. The 20-year-old has caught the eye since joining Frankfurt from Malmo in 2023.
He’s scored eight times in 75 appearances for Frankfurt and has won eight senior caps for the Sweden national team.
Frankfurt, however, are reluctant to sell the player and will demand a fee of around €60m (£51m) for the highly-rated Larsson. Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs have also shown interest.
