Premier League champions Manchester City have established their desired price tag for Julian Alvarez this summer amid growing interest from La Liga and Spanish football.

The Argentina international – who is embarking on his second international tournament of the summer this week – has been eyeing increased opportunities in the leading striker role at one of Europe’s premier clubs in the last few months.

Fresh off the back of a Copa America success with Argentina, Alvarez will now represent his nation in search of Olympic Gold in Paris, but continues to have his club future in the hands of his representatives and Manchester City decision makers.

Having opened himself up to fresh opportunities and challenges across Europe, Alvarez has unsurprisingly attracted widespread interest, with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea among the clubs to have made tentative enquiries over the potential for a deal.

However, the most serious of the potential suitors has been Atletico Madrid of late, but their hopes and aspirations of recruiting the 24-year-old in the coming weeks may now grind to a halt having been made aware of Manchester City’s valuation.

According to the information of The Athletic’s Sam Lee, Atletico Madrid are indeed interested in Julian Alvarez, but Manchester City want a transfer fee starting at around €70 million with another €20 million in add-ons.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the financial situation in European football and somewhat particular in Spain, the report clarifies that a package of €90 million will be too much for the Madrid club.

Manchester City confirmed an agreement with River Plate at the end of the 2022 January transfer window, announcing that the then-22 year-old had signed an initial five-and-a-half-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The aforementioned valuation on the Argentine would also represent staggering profit for the Etihad club should a club trigger a deal for the striker, with officials at Manchester City paying a fee in the region of just £14 million two years ago.

City would likely look into the possibility of recruiting a replacement for Julian Alvarez in the weeks that remain in the ongoing summer market, however options are believed to be limited and it remains to be seen what the club would turn to.
