Officials from Manchester City may have now received the transfer boost they have been hoping for with eyes on Bayern Munich and Germany star Joshua Kimmich.

The Etihad Stadium club are highly likely to invest in their midfield ranks ahead of the 2024/25 season, amid continued uncertainty over the future of two or more of their existing options, including current mainstay Bernardo Silva.

The Portugal international has long been targeting an exit from Manchester City, amid a desire to move closer to home and away from his unhappiness with the English culture, while Kalvin Phillips – currently on loan at West Ham – is likely to leave on a permanent deal.

With City having a clear need to invest in a capable back-up option to defensive midfield mainstay Rodrigo, a new report has linked the Premier League champions with a player that Pep Guardiola knows very well from his time in Germany.

That is according to the information of HITC, who report that Bayern Munich’s versatile midfielder Joshua Kimmich is now ‘keen’ to move to the Premier League this summer, with the reigning champions Manchester City listed as admirers of the player.

Pep Guardiola and his Etihad Stadium colleagues will not be alone in their desire to sign Kimmich however, with the report further revealing Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham as other potential suitors.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the player’s history with Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich, the report further states that the 29-year-old has ‘long been in Manchester City’s thinking’ and they are now ‘keeping close tabs on his situation’ ahead of the reopening of the market.

Joshua Kimmich will be entering the final year of his current Bayern Munich contract next season, and as such could be available at a cut-price fee should Manchester City look to intensify their interest in the player.

Guardiola is largely responsible for Kimmich’s rapid development in the game and subsequent status as one of Germany’s finest footballers over the last six years, utilising the player in a number of roles including inverted full-back while at the Allianz Arena.

Kimmich is likely to be open to the idea of a reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, given the pair’s excellent working relationship at Bayern Munich, and the opportunity to develop further even in his prime years over in the Premier League.
