Manchester City ready to sanction Bernardo Silva transfer to Barcelona
Manchester City have given Barcelona the green light to sign Bernardo Silva, but only if they match his €80 million valuation, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Portuguese has been linked with a move to the Spotify Camp Nou as Barcelona continues to defy their financial limitations with their transfer business.
Despite being unable to register any of their new signings, including the ones who renewed their contracts, the Blaugranas are still in the market for more players.
They are close to signing Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso and are also working on a deal with City to sign Silva.
The Citizens have accepted that the 27-year-old could leave the Etihad Stadium this summer but insist they would not accept anything less than €80m for his services.
Barca know they can only part ways with such an enormous fee if they offload Frenkie de Jong, but the Dutchman has refused to leave the club.
Laporta has publicly informed potential suitors that he wants to keep de Jong at Barca, but it is obvious he would be open to a sale.
He needs to raise money to balance their books if they would be allowed to register any new signings despite activating three economic levers.
Xavi has been in contact with Silva all summer, selling the ongoing project at the Spotify Camp Nou.
While the player is extremely keen to join his side, there is growing impatience in Silva’s camp as the Catalan club are yet to submit a written proposal for his signature.
Silva knows Barca’s economic situation is complicated but wants to see if a deal would be possible.
If he leaves City, it would not be for much less than what he currently earns, which means Laporta would have to present an offer that convinces both the Citizens and the player.
Negotiations between both clubs have stalled, and despite additional interest from Paris Saint-Germain, it looks increasingly possible that the former AS Monaco man would remain in England this season.
