Developments emerging from Turkey on Monday have indicated that City Football Group are closing in on the purchase of another European club.

The latest development involving Manchester City’s owners comes at a time when a previous investment in now starting to reap the rewards of the group’s long-term investment plan, with La Liga club Girona topping their division by two points.

City Football Group’s prized possession in the Spanish game moved seven points clear of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona on Sunday evening, defeating the latter 2-4 to further stamp their claim as serious title contenders in La Liga.

Now, the likes of Manchester City and Girona – alongside the multitude of investments across the globe – look set to be joined by one of Turkey’s most notable clubs, with reports detailing the latest developments concerning negotiations involving City Football Group.

That is according to Fanatik’s Ömer Necati Albayrak, who reports that an agreement has now been reached in the negotiations between City Football Group and İstanbul Başakşehir – who have ‘received the first payment’ as part of the takeover.

Following the significant steps forward involving the transition of Başakşehir to the City Group, it is further reported that an official announcement of the sale is now expected ‘in a short time’.

The City Group hold 100% stakes in a number of clubs across the globe, whilst also having invested significant amounts into the global game elsewhere through investments in other clubs.

Manchester City, Melbourne City, Montevideo City Torque, and Troyes are all 100% owned by the City Football Group, whilst the likes of Mumbai City, New York City, Lommel, Palermo, and Bahia are all majority-owned by the business.

At present, it remains somewhat uncertain as to what level of involvement the City Football Group will have in the Istanbul-based club, but further details can be expected in the near future given the excitement around the reports.
