Officials at the Etihad Stadium are reportedly monitoring the progress and performances of Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, according to new claims.
It comes as Manchester City secured all three of their current goalkeeping options beyond the recent summer transfer window, despite intensifying doubts over their respective futures at the Etihad Stadium.
Scott Carson became the first to commit his services into yet another season at Manchester City despite doubts over whether he would finally call it a day, with the Premier League champions valuing his importance as a dressing room presence.
Stefan Ortega Moreno would also commit his future to the club with a new contract extension amid growing concerns that he may take up a fresh opportunity elsewhere in the game, having maintained his status as the club’s number two behind Ederson.
And the Brazilian himself remained at the club into another season despite intense transfer interest and pressure from the Saudi Pro League, with interested clubs ultimately turning down the opportunity to sign the player at Manchester City’s £50 million valuation.
Now, according to the information of TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey, both Manchester City and Newcastle United are watching Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier closely with a Premier League move potentially on the cards.
However, those clubs are not alone in their interest, with the report stating that ‘European A-listers’ are also intrigued by the player, with Paris Saint-Germain standing alongside City in considering a bid that would test Lille’s resolve over the shot-stopper.
On the subject of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, the report claims that they have been watching Chevalier over the last 12 months, with the 22-year-old emerging as a potential long-term replacement for Ederson.
The Premier League champions are also reportedly keeping tabs on the likes of AS Roma’s Mile Svilar and Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson.
It remains unknown as to whether Manchester City have any specific concerns over the future of their goalkeeping contingent heading into another calendar year and two transfer windows, however there have been fresh reports concerning the future of Stefan Ortega Moreno.
One report emerging from Germany has claimed that the 31-year-old would push for a move away from Pep Guardiola’s side should he not receive assurances over taking on the number one spot in the squad from next season.
There is a belief from the player’s side that an opportunity to feature for the Germany national team may finally be emerging, however that would require more consistent game time for him in order to find himself in a position to take on international appearances.
