Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and FC Barcelona.

The 32-year-old is set to become a free agent in the summer as his contract stands to expire at the end of the season. And, Barcelona have positioned themselves as a prospective suitor for the German midfielder.

Now, according to Sique Rodriguez on Carrusel Deportivo, Gundogan himself is tempted by the possibility of playing for Barcelona.

The Manchester City captain has been at the club for almost seven years now, having arrived from Borussia Dortmund in 2016. After having some early troubles due to injury and fitness woes, he became an integral figure in Pep Guardiola’s setup at the Etihad Stadium.

Gundogan has been critical to the success that the Cityzens have achieved in the recent past. But with his contract expiring in the summer, an exit could be on the cards, especially with the player attracted to the idea of joining Barcelona.

The Catalans, for their part, are keen to add Gundogan to their ranks so that they can make use of his vast experience, versatility, and leadership. His potential arrival would also add more quality and depth in the midfield department, thus allowing Xavi to rest the likes of Pedri and Sergio Busquets regularly.

Recent reports even suggested that the Barcelona manager had already held talks with Gundogan, who would be open to moving to Camp Nou in the summer and would even consider taking a pay cut given the club’s financial situation.

Now, Sique Rodriguez is stating that the possibility of playing for the La Liga leaders appeals to Gundogan. However, the 32-year-old is yet to make a firm decision on his future and so, an extension with Manchester City is not entirely off the table at this point.
