At this rate, I think every England player has come out giving their verdict on the criticism that Harry Maguire has received this season.

The Manchester United skipper lost his place in the starting XI under Erik ten Hag but has kept his place in the England team.

To Maguire’s credit, the centre-back has been one of England’s best performers at the World Cup this winter.

Speaking to reporters ahead of England’s quarter-final clash with France, Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips said (via Manchester Evening News): “We are 100% behind him. I know he’s not played as much football as he would have liked this season and he gets a lot of stick, which I think is very undeserved.

“He is a top professional and a great footballer. All you have to do is watch him in a major tournament for England and see he is one of the top defenders. He has been for England for a long, long time.
