The future of one of Manchester City’s highly-rated midfield stars could be thrown into serious doubt should the club finalise a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush.
The Premier League champions have made the 25-year-old forward their next priority transfer to bring into the club, having reached a total agreement with Ligue 1 side Lens over the signing of Abdukodir Khusanov on Friday.
The Uzbek defender will become the first-ever player from his country to play in the Premier League and will bring in a remarkable profit for the French side, who have agreed a deal worth €40 million plus bonuses with Manchester City.
There has consistently been an awareness within the Etihad Stadium that a deal for Omar Marmoush of Eintracht Frankfurt for be the more complex deal, with the Egyptian international their leading provider of goals as they chase UEFA Champions League football.
However, given Manchester City’s struggles this season and their firm desire to rebuild their playing squad in preparation for Pep Guardiola’s last two contracted seasons, the money may simply have to be paid with a fee already tipped to exceed the €60 million barrier.
But according to the information of The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg and Jamie Jackson, should Omar Marmoush join Manchester City this month, it could prompt James McAtee to push for a move away from the Etihad Stadium.
It is pointed out that Premier League rivals Fulham are interested in an initial loan for the midfielder, who has also been tracked by West Ham United, who in turn is keen for more opportunities this season.
A loan move for James McAtee is said to be likelier than a permanent transfer at this stage of the season, although any sale would see the player cost around £20 million, with Ipswich Town also reportedly interested.
Despite the widespread and growing interest in McAtee from numerous clubs throughout Europe, Pep Guardiola has remained hugely complimentary of the young midfielder, particularly after his stellar role in Manchester City’s recent 0-2 win over Leicester City.
“He made us believe that maybe he should’ve had more minutes but he’s young, and a lot of games still to play, but of course he played really good,” the Manchester City manager told a recent press conference.
“And the most important is all of his teammates were so happy, because he has big respect for how he behaves in the locker room,” the 53-year-old revealed.
