Manchester City and City Football Group midfielder Diego Rosa has left the Etihad side on a permanent deal, joining Brazilian club Bahia, it has been confirmed.

The 20 year-old midfielder has signed a long-term deal with the newly-acquired City Football Group side, keeping his services at EC Bahia until 2027.

Diego Rosa had initially joined Manchester City in the January of 2021, arriving in England from Brazilian side Gremio on a five-year deal signed with the City Football Group directly.

However, the midfielder was not kept at Manchester City, and instead joined the City Group’s Belgian club Lommel S.K. on an 18 month loan deal.

Interestingly, a report by Belgian outlet HBvL at the time suggested that the plan was always for Diego Rosa to join another City Football Group side permanently, as soon as his loan deal in Belgium expired.

That now brings Rosa back to Brazil, in an opportunity that he will be hoping could re-spark a promising career that somewhat plateaued during his time in Europe.

Diego Rosa will become EC Bahia’s first permanent signing since being acquired by the City Football Group, and will also join fellow rising talent Kayky – who has joined the club on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

The latter recently spent time in Portugal’s Primeira Liga on loan with Pacos de Ferreira, in a move that failed to showcase Kayky’s true talents.

Speaking in light of his return to Brazil, after leaving Fluminense for Manchester City in 2021, Kayky said, “I reached a high level that is football in England and arriving young, having patience to wait.

“We preferred to return to Brazil (with Bahia) to gain confidence and be able to return to Manchester City or follow another path.”
