Premier League champions Manchester City have reportedly ‘approached’ Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma amid uncertainty over their goalkeeping ranks.

The latest claims surrounding Manchester City and goalkeepers comes after fresh interest emerged over the weekend from Saudi Arabia in Pep Guardiola’s mainstay first-choice stopper Ederson.

The Brazilian has been open to the idea of a move to the Saudi Pro League since the end of last season, but saw his opportunity initially squandered by the exit of Al Nassr from the race, after they saw an opening £25 million offer rejected by the Premier League champions.

However, with Al Ittihad now throwing themselves into the picture for the 30-year-old Brazil international, and Manchester City expected to have their resolve tested over a €50 million valuation, contingency plans are now being put in place.

There had been a feeling that Stefan Ortega would be the next name to be placed into the first-choice goalkeeping position at the Etihad Stadium, but the latest reports could indicate a change in direction amongst the City board.

According to the information of journalist Ben Jacobs, Manchester City have now ‘approached’ Paris Saint-Germain and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma as an option in case Ederson leaves for Saudi Arabia this summer.

It is claimed that while the 25-year-old is happy in the French capital and has held ‘early-stage discussions’ about extending his agreement with the club, the player is known to be interested in playing in the Premier League at some stage in his career.

Gianluigi Donnarumma has been at the very top of European football for the best part of a decade, having first broke into AC Milan’s first-team set-up in 2015 and amassing over 200 senior appearances before making the move to PSG.

The Naples-born goalkeeper has also been Italy’s first-choice goalkeeper alongside his duties in France for a number of seasons and represented his country at the recent European Championships in Germany.

It remains to be seen whether Donnarumma is a viable candidate for the potentially available Manchester City goalkeeping position, and whether the Premier League side actively look to pursue an agreement or seek a suitable back-up to Ortega in the event of a promotion.
