Adding creativity to their midfield is one of several areas that Manchester City will look to improve in Pep Guardiola’s squad this summer. It’s a need that must be addressed for City to return to the top of English and European football. Now a new report indicates that Manchester City are set to advance their move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White. It appears that City are wasting no time getting to work ahead of the summer transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that Manchester City are planning to advance their move for Morgan Gibbs-White in the coming weeks. Furthermore, Romano adds that the England international is one of City’s priority transfer targets. Romano further reports that agreeing personal terms with Gibbs-White isn’t expected to be an issue. But Nottingham Forest are determined to keep Morgan Gibbs-White at the club. That could prove to be a stumbling block in City’s move for the midfielder.
It’s easy to see why Manchester City are eager to push ahead with a deal to sign Morgan Gibbs-White. He would add much-needed energy and creativity to City’s midfield. That appears to be what City’s engine room lacks. Players such as Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic and Kevin De Bruyne are all getting on in years. In the case of De Bruyne, he will leave City this summer. Morgan Gibbs-White would replace what those players cannot provide consistently. His energy, drive and creativity would be immense additions to Pep Guardiola’s squad. It also must be said that it is unlikely that Gibbs-White is the only midfielder City could bring in this summer.
But it does appear that Manchester City are wasting no time moving ahead of the summer transfer window. In an ideal world they would bring in one or two players before the FIFA Club World Cup. That would kick start the next phase of their rebuild. It now remains to be seen how quickly City can advance their move for Morgan Gibbs-White. But it is clear that he is a priority transfer target for the world champions and they won’t be wasting any time in trying to seal a deal for the England international.
