Ousmane Dembele’s contract situation at Barcelona has led to a lot of interest in his services from clubs across Europe.

Premier League giants Manchester United, Chelsea have constantly been linked with the Frenchman while Newcastle United have also emerged as shock suitors following their newfound riches. Ligue 1 giants PSG are also keenly monitoring the 24-year-old as they consider a free transfer swoop for him in the summer.

Now, English publication Express (h/t Fichajes) is claiming that reigning Premier League champions Manchester City have also thrown their hat in the ring for the signing of Dembele.

The report states that the Cityzens have been keeping tabs on the development of the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner for quite some time now, with manager Pep Guardiola believed to be an admirer of the forward.

They are now considering signing the former Borussia Dortmund star on a Bosman move in the summer when his contract with Barca expires. It is claimed that his pace and ability to play on either flank or through the middle appeal to the Mancunian heavyweights.

It is certainly an interesting development, considering that it has been previously claimed that the Citizens had rejected a chance to sign Dembele. Indeed, reports last month indicated that Barcelona had offered the French international to the Premier League leaders as part of the deal to sign Ferran Torres in the January transfer window, only to see the proposal get shot down.

The Blaugrana intend to keep hold of the ex-Rennes prodigy beyond the summer and have been trying to negotiate a new contract for some time, only to face resistance from his agent, Moussa Sissoko.

And, if there is truth to these latest claims of City being interested in Dembele, the idea of a part-exchange deal involving Torres could be revisited if the Frenchman continues to put off signing a new contract with Barcelona.
