James Maddison is a player of interest for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City ahead of the summer transfer window, a new report has detailed.

Etihad Stadium officials are expected to be bracing themselves for a busy market in the coming months, as Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad undergoes changes both in the form of fresh faces and departures.

One position that is set to see significant work is the central midfield role, with Manchester City still holding some internal concerns over the futures of club captain Ilkay Gundogan, and Bernardo Silva – who has been keen on an exit for a number of summer windows.

As such, a new name has now emerged as a potential arrival in the position and comes with a relatively favourable contractual situation at his current club.

That player is Leicester City’s James Maddison, according to the information of Jack Gaughan and Tom Collomosse of the Mail.

According to the report, Manchester City are interested in a move for the 26 year-old England international this summer, despite their interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, with Pep Guardiola wanting more goals from those behind Erling Haaland.

As highlighted by the report, James Maddison will soon be entering the final 12 months of his £100,000-a-week contract at Leicester City and has so far shown ‘no inclination’ to sign an extension. As such, it is stated that the Foxes are ‘increasingly unlikely’ to be able to hold on to the player in the summer.

But how much would Manchester City have to pay to secure James Maddison?

Last summer, Newcastle United saw two bids rejected by their fellow Premier League competitors as they did not come close to Leicester valuation of around £60 million at the time. One would expect that valuation to decrease, should the player’s contract situation remain or Leicester fall into the EFL Championship this season.

Elsewhere, Manchester City are also likely to be interested in the signing of a new forward over the course of the coming months, having seen a significant amount of pace leave the club over the last few years.

Raheem Sterling joined Chelsea in a permanent deal last summer, along with Gabriel Jesus – who completed a move to City’s Premier League title challengers Arsenal, as well as Leroy Sane completing a switch to Bayern Munich at the start of the 2019/20 season.

While options are expected to be limited in the position, in terms of what Manchester City will be looking for in a new wide-winger, the likes of AC Milan’s Rafael Leao and Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are expected to attract interest from across Europe – and likely from Etihad officials.
