Premier League champions Manchester City are interested in a move for highly-rated central defender, Abdukodir Khusanov this month, it has been revealed.
Etihad Stadium bosses are keen to begin work on what is being tipped to be a major overhaul of Pep Guardiola’s options in 2025, with some reports suggesting that as many as eight new signings could be brought in across the next two transfer windows.
That work will likely begin in relatively unusual circumstances for Manchester City, with the belief being that up to three new names could be brought in midway through the season in the hope of reviving their campaign across competitions.
Pep Guardiola and his players have found themselves in a hugely surprising run of form across competitions, winning just two matches in their last 14 in the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, and Carabao Cup.
And as part of that search for new talents to work under Pep Guardiola and bring in a new generation at Manchester City across the next two and a half seasons, it has now been confirmed that the club are looking towards one of French football’s best talents.
That is according to the information of transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, who reveals that officials within Manchester City have now added RC Lens centre-back, Abdukodir Khusanov to their list for the ongoing January transfer window.
Whilst it is highlighted that there are ‘several’ top clubs also interested in the 20-year-old, given that he is considered ‘one of the best talents in his position’, the race is ‘open’ and City are being kept ‘well-informed’ on the player.
Manager Pep Guardiola has already made his feelings very clear on Manchester City’s need for January recruitment in the public eye, recently telling BBC Match of the Day, “In some positions we need help.”
The Catalan tactician continued, “When we’re all together we’re the team we were but with important players out for weeks and months it’s so difficult. I thought central defenders would be fit all season but we’ve struggled, holding midfield and central defenders we need help.
“The market is the market, not easy, expensive so we’ll see what the club can do.”
On the pitch, matters remain as relentless as ever as Manchester City’s players returned on Thursday from a short break with family and friends over the New Year celebrations to begin work on preparations for a home clash against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
