One potential option to replace the presence of Ederson in the Manchester City squad this summer has been shut down by a new report from Brazil.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has been continuously linked with a move to Saudi Arabia throughout the ongoing summer transfer window, with Al-Nassr understood to be the most serious of the Middle-Eastern admirers.

It is widely understood that Ederson could be subject to a significant rise in pay package, should he agree to a move to the Saudi Pro League, with finances north of £500,000-a-week mooted in various quarters.

In turn, Manchester City are preparing for a scenario that would see the 30-year-old bring an end to his seven-year stay at the Etihad Stadium, targeting a number of options for the goalkeeping positions including a new back-up.

The latest of those names was Brazilian youth international Mycael of Athletico Paranaense, who is yet to exceed three senior appearances for his club but earning rave reviews throughout the game as a potential new superstar of the goalkeeping world.

According to the information of journalist Rômulo Giacomin, the Brazilian under-23 international Mycael is attracting interest from two Premier League clubs, both of whom ‘carried out surveys’ in 2023.

With the goalkeeping prospect expecting new approaches in this window, according to the report, he has also received inquiries from more European and Brazilian clubs, while those from the English top-flight to have carried out consultations are intermediaries.

However, unfortunately for those wanting to see Mycael at Manchester City from this summer, the report clarifies that despite recent reports, there has been ‘no consultation’ so far from the Premier League champions.

At present, the current belief is that in the event of Ederson bringing an end to his illustrious stay at Manchester City, club officials would deem it necessary and right to promote Stefan Ortega into the number one role.

The German shot-stopper was called upon on multiple occasions last season through injuries sustained by his colleague, and was largely faultless in showpiece contests against the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Chelsea across competitions.

Other goalkeepers aside from Mycael linked with Manchester City interest have been few and far between this summer, pointing towards the uncertainty that still looms over the future of Ederson amid ongoing Saudi discussions.
