The pursuit of Florian Wirtz from within Manchester City may have taken a fresh turn in a positive direction following new information from one club insider.
The Premier League champions are beginning work on what is expected to be their busiest summer transfer window since 2017, when the club revitalised their playing squad to suit the demands of Pep Guardiola’s blueprint ahead of his second season at the club.
While a number of positions are expected to come under the microscope throughout the course of the coming weeks and months, one confirmed operation emerged in public last week as Kevin De Bruyne announced his exit from the club in the summer.
There remains a possibility that Manchester City could seek solutions to replace De Bruyne from within their existing playing squad, with more responsibility placed on the likes of Phil Foden for example.
However, the more likely route for club officials to go down is via the transfer market, and a new report has pointed towards one of German football’s best prospects and current talents as the go-to Kevin De Bruyne replacement for Pep Guardiola.
That is according to reputable Manchester City source ‘FPLMaineRoad’ on X, who reveals that Manchester City are set to ‘go all in’ for Bayer Leverkusen and Germany’s Florian Wirtz during the upcoming summer transfer window.
It is further detailed that sporting director Txiki Begiristain, alongside his pending replacement Hugo Viana and head coach Pep Guardiola have ‘all given the thumbs up’ to a move for the 21-year-old.
Other possible replacements for Kevin De Bruyne mooted in the wider media have been few and far between, although there was some feeling that admiration within the Etihad Stadium was held for Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala.
However, following the Germany international’s long-term contract renewal at the Allianz Arena, there is unlikely to be too much of a pursuit from Manchester City unless they stump up an eye-watering cash offer to the Bundesliga giants.
It remains to be seen whether premium attacking midfield names currently operating within the Premier League come into Manchester City’s thinking, with the likes of Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers spoken about recently.
