Brahim Díaz has been locked in a contract stalemate with City and refused to go out on loan to Girona this summer.
Manchester City’s front office respected his wishes and have kept him around, but, according to journalist Jose Alvarez, the two parties are nowhere close to agreeing to a contract extension.
Díaz is out of contract next summer and may begin negotiating with other clubs in January.
The 19-year-old has yet to appear in any of Pep Guardiola’s Premier League matchday squads, but did feature in the Community Shield for 15 minutes.
Díaz is one of three City starlets that still have a chance to win the 2018 Golden Boy award.
