With a little over a month left in the summer transfer window, Real Madrid continue to be linked with more signings despite having already brought in four players.

A new midfielder is understood to be on the agenda for manager Xabi Alonso, with Los Blancos missing a player who can dictate the tempo from the centre since Toni Kroos’ retirement last year.

One of the players most prominently linked with a move to Real Madrid to fill the void has been Manchester City superstar Rodri.

The Spanish international is a player that is greatly admired at Valdebebas and the player himself is understood to look favourably at the idea of a move.

Man City not planning to sell

However, any transfer this summer is seen as extremely unlikely due to multiple factors according to journalist Melchor Ruiz (h/t RM4Arab).

For starters, Manchester City have no desire to sell Rodri this summer, with the player being seen as an integral part of the plans in Pep Guardiola’s team.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner’s absence due to an ACL injury last season was sorely felt by the Premier League heavyweights as they struggled to play at their best without him on the field.

As such, there are no plans to part ways with Rodri this summer, with the club even working on a renewal offer for him.

Moreover, Real Madrid also have no intentions to make a move for the 29-year-old midfielder at the moment despite admiring him.

The Merengues wish to see how the midfielder has returned after his lengthy layoff due to the serious injury. Furthermore, he will also be entering the final year of his contract in 2026, making a move more feasible.

As such, at this point, a transfer in the current transfer window seems unlikely.
