Manchester City have reportedly decided to rely on Zack Steffen as their second choice goalkeeper next season.
City signed Steffen from Columbus Crew in 2019 – for an MLS record £5m fee – before loaning him to Fortuna Düsseldorf for 2019/20.
According to Manchester Evening News, head coach Pep Guardiola would prefer to rely on the 25-year-old instead of buying a replacement for Claudio Bravo.
Steffen enjoyed an impressive season in the Bundesliga despite Düsseldorf being relegated on a dramatic final day.
“Zack had a brilliant start to the season and showed that he has the potential to become a top keeper at European level,” said Düsseldorf sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel.
“Steffen has all the ingredients. He has a very clean goalkeeper technique. Good reactions, good hands, and demanding in the box.
“His distribution and game-opening make him a modern keeper. Looking at all of that, it’s no surprise that Manchester City went for Zack.”
Having already signed Ferran Torres and Nathan Aké, City are still in the market for central defensive and central midfield additions.
