One player named as a Manchester City first-team player for the ongoing season will miss out on a Premier League winner’s medal this weekend, should the job be done.

Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players have now moved to within just one more win of claiming a record-breaking fourth successive Premier League crown, following on from an outstanding 0-2 victory over Tottenham on Tuesday night.

That final clash in the English top-flight for Manchester City comes against David Moyes’ West Ham, whom Guardiola has stressed will come to the Etihad Stadium with a staggering threat namely in attacking areas of the pitch.

The Premier League have already confirmed that with the direction of the top-flight title remaining unknown heading into the final day of the season, two identical trophies and sets of medals will be in place at both Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and Etihad Stadium.

However, for Manchester City, one big-money first-team name is being held in limbo over whether he will hold a Premier League winners’ medal come the end of Sunday afternoon, even if his side claim the top-flight crown.

As highlighted by a new MailSport report, Kalvin Phillips has only made four Premier League appearances for Manchester City this season, all of which have come from the substitutes bench, and featured for just 89 minutes.

As such, and unfortunately for the England international in what has been a hugely challenging season, Premier League rules state that players who make five appearances have to be awarded a winners medal, and each club is given 40 to hand out.

At present, Manchester City have 29 players with five or more Premier League games to their name, and are known to regularly hand one to Scott Carson, leaving another 10 to divide between other squad members and staff.

Adding in some extra spice to Phillips’ situation, the Manchester City midfielder is officially on-loan at West Ham, but will play no part in Sunday’s contest having been ruled out for the remainder of the season through a muscular injury several weeks ago.

Phillips is likely to bring an end to his time with Manchester City during the upcoming summer transfer window, with a history Treble to his name despite the difficulties faced over game time during his time with the club.
