Manchester City are interested in signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, as per a new report.

The January arrival of Abdukodir Khusanov has helped alleviate City’s problems owing to his pace and fearless commitment to tackles, a pair of traits often lacking within the Blues’ current crop of options in defence.

City are expected to make serious strides in the summer transfer window and full-back is an area that could witness significant investment to get Guardiola’s men challenging on all fronts again next term.

Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz has been reliably reported to be top of Manchester City’s wishlist to replace 33-year-old Kevin De Bruyne, whom the club are ready to offer an extension on reduced wages owing to his desire to play for Belgium in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Wirtz is understood to prefer a move to either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich as City look to refurbish their squad amid a battle to finish in the Premier League top-four.

There is also uncertainty around the future(s) of each of Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, John Stones, Ederson, Manuel Akanaji – with wholesale changes expected in Guardiola’s squad when Hugo Viana takes over from Txiki Begiristain as director of football.

As per TeamTalk, City are interested in signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. Frimpong has also attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Leverkusen are expected to table a significant price-tag for the 24-year-old Dutch full-back, who has over three years left on his current deal at BayArena.

Frimpong could prove to be an attractive prospect for Guardiola owing to his versatility and ability to operate in midfield – a quality appreciated by the Manchester City in the full-backs he has deployed over the course of his managerial career.
