Manchester City executives want Pep Guardiola to sign a new long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The 53-year-old is out of contract in east Manchester at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, with the potential for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium to mark the end of the Catalan’s penultimate season at Manchester City.

Guardiola has signed three previous contract extensions since moving to Manchester City from Bayern Munich in 2016, with the manager set to embark on his ninth campaign at the Etihad next season.

The Manchester City boss won his 17th major trophy last weekend as the Sky Blues won a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title, courtesy of a 3-1 win over West Ham United, after a first-half Phil Foden brace and second-half Rodri strike.

Guardiola has won six Premier League titles in the last seven years, as well as lifting the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FA Community Shield.

Both the Catalonian and senior midfield star Kevin De Bruyne are out of contract with the club next year, and despite Guardiola recently suggesting that his time in Manchester could be drawing to a close, club executives are reportedly planning to offer Guardiola a new long-term deal.

Mike Keegan claims that Manchester City officials want Guardiola to sign a new long-term contract, with the deal seeing the 53-year-old extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium beyond a decade.

The Blues are reportedly ‘keen’ for the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager to further extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium, with Guardiola having even discussed his future with at least one key player over dinner recently.

Officials will place ‘no pressure’ on Guardiola to sign a fourth contract extension, although any new deal would see the Catalan stay until the conclusion of the Premier League’s investigation into the the Blues, with the case expected to be heard in the Autumn.

Manchester City face Manchester United in the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon, and will also compete in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the United States next summer – a competition potentially complicating any departure from the club.

News of Etihad officials wanting Guardiola to sign a new contract comes just days after Jurgen Klopp quit Liverpool, and Bayern Munich pressed ahead with plans to appoint Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany as their new manager.
