Girona finished 10th in La Liga last season, winning 13 matches and taking points off of both Barcelona and Real Madrid, including an emphatic 4-2 win over Carlo Ancelotti’s side in April, with Valentín Castellanos scoring all four goals.

The Spanish side have announced the signings of two Manchester City players ahead of the new campaign, signing duo Yan Couto and Yangel Herrera.

Herrera, who spent last season at Girona, has signed for the La Liga club on a permanent deal until 2027.

The 25 year-old midfielder featured in 20 matches for Girona during the 2022/23 campaign, and has previously also played for fellow City Football Group side New York City in the MLS.

Herrera signed for Manchester City in 2017, and prior to playing for Girona in La Liga, the Venezuelan played for Granada in the Spanish top-flight.

Full-back Yan Couto will also return to the Estadio Montilivi for the upcoming campaign after agreeing another season-long loan.

Couto, who was an unused substitute during the 2021 FA Community Shield Final for the Manchester City first-team, has made 56 appearances over two previous loan spells in Catalonia.

The Brazilian signed for City at 17-years-old in 2020, and as well as enjoying two loan spells at Girona, the right-back has also spent time at SC Braga in Portugal.

A number of players from the City Football Academy move to Girona each year, with young midfielder Maximo Perrone, who spent time with the Manchester City first-team following his arrival in January, recently linked with a move to the Spanish side.

Bruno González García reported last month that the 20 year-old has ‘many chances’ of joining Girona for the new campaign, but will likely spend pre-season with Pep Guardiola’s squad.
