In a recent report, Le Soir has stated that Manchester City are ‘determined to sell’ Lukas Nmecha with several Bundesliga and Premier League clubs chasing after his services. It is believed that the Man City striker, who is enjoying a productive loan spell at Anderlecht, could be sold when the transfer window reopens later this summer (via Le Sour).

Nmecha’s Impressive Loan Spell In Belgian Football

The Hamburg-born talent is enjoying an outstanding season in Belgian football as he has been responsible for producing a run of match-winning displays for Anderlecht over the past ten months. Nmecha has banged in 18 goals and provided three assists in 36 matches for the Belgian outfit this term across various competitions.

The 22-year-old deserves a pat on the back for averaging 3.0 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Jupiler Pro League. However, he needs to be more careful when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 71.5% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Nmecha is a player on the rise but he won’t be guaranteed regular game time at the Etihad Stadium as Guardiola will be looking for someone with more experience and a proven goal-scoring record to replace Sergio Aguero in the long run. Hence, it makes sense for the German striker to switch clubs during the summer transfer window.

Should Pep Guardiola Cash In On The German Frontman This Summer?

Nmecha has decent pace in his locker and can make a few well-timed runs in behind the opponent’s backline. Standing at 1.85m, he can use his body well to shield the ball and has transformed himself into a decent finisher in the attacking third of the pitch. The German sensation is primarily a centre-forward but can also play on either flank as a winger if required.

There is no denying that Nmecha is a talented forward but Guardiola doesn’t have the luxury to offer him a squad role if he intends to bring in a marquee forward to replace Aguero this summer. At 22, the German forward needs regular first-team football if he wants to become a future star in European football.

Therefore, Man City should consider cashing in on him this summer before he enters the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium. It is only fair to the player if Guardiola lets him go as he is evidently not a part of Man City’s long-term plans based on how they have chosen not to renew his contract.
