In a recent report, The Daily Star revealed that Manchester City defender Ruben Dias is set to be offered an improved contract after he helped the club secure another Premier League title last season. It is believed that Man City are prepared to offer the Portugal international a pay rise so that they can keep him happy at the Etihad Stadium for the long run (via The Daily Star).

Dias’ Outstanding Debut Campaign In English Football

Dias had one of the best years of his young career at the blue half of Manchester in the previous campaign when he established himself as a commanding figure at the heart of Pep Guardiola’s defence. The Portuguese defensive ace made 50 appearances for Man City last season, scoring one goal in the process on all fronts.

The 24-year-old proved his worth as a top performer in England where he averaged 0.8 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 2.8 clearances per game in the 2020-21 Premier League campaign. He also distributed the ball with accuracy after completing 93.2% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

Dias is currently amongst the best centre-backs in European football, so it is no surprise that Man City want to reward him for his excellent contributions by giving him a well-deserved pay rise so that they can keep hold of him for the long run.

Dias Set To Be Offered An Improved Contract: Good Move For Everyone Involved?

Dias can read the danger quickly and excels at clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot. He can also get stuck in with some crunching tackles to secure the ball back on the defensive end of the pitch.

The 32-time Portugal international is proficient at building attacks from the back and hardly gives away the ball when interchanging possession with his teammates going forward. He has settled into life at Manchester quite well and could even get better under the expert stewardship of Guardiola in the coming seasons.

At 24, Dias is about to enter his prime, so Man City can expect to get the best out of him if they can keep him content at the Etihad for a long-time. The talented centre-half won’t mind a pay rise while Man City would have the mental peace of having him locked to a long-term contract. Hence, it will be a good move for both the player and the Mancunian club ahead of the new season.
