Manchester City defender Alanna Kennedy collected her 100th senior international cap for Australia as they defeated Brazil 3-1 in Parramatta this morning in an international friendly.

The 26-year-old has become the 11th Commonwealth Bank Matilda to achieve the feat, she hits the century mark just one game on from Chelsea’s Sam Kerr reaching the same landmark. Kennedy held the captain’s armband for this morning’s fixture at the CommBank Stadium.

The game saw Australia play a match on home soil for the first time in almost 600 days and they took the lead towards the end of the first half when Clare Polkinghorne struck from close range. Tony Gustavsson’s side extended their lead midway through the second half when Mary Fowler ghosted in to head home at the back post following a cross from the left.

Adriana then almost instantly pulled a goal back for Brazil before Emily van Egmond sealed the win for Australia with their third goal 10 minutes from time.

Defender Kennedy collected her 100th cap nine years on from making her debut against New Zealand. The player has been instrumental for Australia in two FIFA Women’s World Cups and two Olympic Games.

Australia are back in action again on Tuesday when they take on Brazil in another international friendly match at the same venue.
