Manchester City’s injury situation has gone from bad to worse with the news on Friday that Gabriel Jesus is expected to be out for a number of weeks.
City have not yet confirmed the extent of Jesus’s injury nor the length of time he is expected to be out for, but the Brazilian national team announced on Friday that the 23-year-old striker has withdrawn from their squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers with Bolivia and Peru.
“Last Wednesday (23 September), the English team contacted the doctor of the Brazilian National Team, Rodrigo Lasmar, reporting the player’s injury detected after the game Premier League against Wolverhampton, on Monday (21 September),” read a statement released via the official CBF website.
That would appear to rule Jesus out of action until at least the middle of October and he was replaced in the Seleçao squad by Hertha BSC’s Matheus Cunha.
Jesus joins follow striker Sergio Agüero on the treatment table, with City boss Pep Guardiola suggesting earlier this week he has just 13 senior players available for the Leicester game.
