Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is set to be offered a major wage increase by Etihad bosses amid interest from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr.

The 30-year-old returned to the City Football Academy on Monday for pre-season medical testing, with Pep Guardiola’s side expected to travel to the United States for a four-match tour to prepare for the new campaign this month.

Ederson is currently expected to travel to USA for the pre-season tour despite continued transfer interest from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, who are reportedly willing to offer the Brazilian international £900,000-per-week wages.

The goalkeeper missed Manchester City’s concluding two matches of the 2023/24 season against West Ham and Manchester United due to a facial fracture, sustaining the injury after a nasty collision with Cristian Romero at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in May.

Ederson has been at the Etihad Stadium since a £35 million move from Benfica in 2017, with the shot-stopper winning over a dozen trophies and making 332 appearances across seven different competitions.

The 30-year-old has faced competition to be Guardiola’s first-choice in recent months, as German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega impressed throughout the campaign, and signed a new contract until 2026 despite initially stalling negotiations.

Ederson is also contracted at Manchester City until 2026, but could become the third goalkeeper to sign an extension this summer, after Scott Carson extended his stay in east Manchester with a new one-year deal until 2025.

The Sun report that Etihad executives are preparing to counteract interest from Saudi Arabia by offering the Brazilian goalkeeper a ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ contract extension proposal, with the offer including a near-75 per cent pay increase.

Manchester City would reportedly ‘love’ to keep hold of the 30-year-old and ‘hope’ that a new contract offer will secure the services of the goalkeeper for the 2024/25 campaign.

The Sky Blues additionally intend to hold out for £50 million to sell Ederson this summer, should the shot-stopper be ‘determined’ to swap east Manchester for the Middle East.

Both Ederson and Ortega could feature during the upcoming pre-season tour of the USA, with scheduled friendlies against Celtic, AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea.

Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish and Oscar Bobb are also set to be a part of the touring squad, with several first-team absentees as a result of the European Championship and Copa America.
