One player whose future has been the subject of speculation this summer is PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian international is one of the finest goalkeepers in world football. Susy Campanale has relayed a report from L’Equipe for Football Italia that Manchester City and Manchester United are interested in signing Donnarumma this summer. But looking at the situation from a City point of view the potential move is a non-starter. With James Trafford set to complete his move to Manchester City from Burnley next week there is no need for City to buy another goalkeeper.
Susy Campanale reports for Football Italia that Manchester City and Manchester United are interested in signing PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Furthermore, Campanale reports that PSG are on the verge of signing Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. With Gianluigi Donnarumma’s contract only having twelve months to run he is set to be sold by PSG Campanale further reports. Manchester City, Manchester United, Galatasaray, Chelsea and Juventus are named as possible destinations for Donnarumma by Susy Campanale.
James Trafford’s expected move to Manchester City is expected to be completed early next week. Fabrizio Romano reports that Trafford is set to undergo a medical with Manchester City on Monday. He will then sign a five-year contract with City as per Romano’s report.
James Trafford’s imminent arrival at City ends any hope of Manchester City signing Gianluigi Donnarumma. Pep Guardiola’s squad does not need another goalkeeper. With Ederson and James Trafford expected to battle it out to be Manchester City’s number-one keeper next season there is no need for City to move for the PSG keeper. Gianluigi Donnarumma’s quality isn’t in question. The fact that Manchester City don’t need another goalkeeper means that the L’Equipe report is likely wide of the mark.
Manchester City’s imminent signing of James Trafford from Burnley potentially gives City their next number-one goalkeeper for a decade. They simply do not need to pursue a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma. So that story can be cast aside as City focus their attention elsewhere in the transfer market.
