Manchester City have published their retained squad list for the 2023/24 season with club captain Ilkay Gundogan one of four players released by the treble winners.
The Premier League have published retained and released lists ahead of the expiration of contracts and planning for the new campaign, with Manchester City bidding to win a fourth successive Premier League title next season.
Pep Guardiola’s side will start the new campaign at Turf Moor against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, with the Blues having last week become treble winners, after winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
Club captain Ilkay Gundogan, who could still sign a new deal with the Sky Blues despite interest from Barcelona, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, is one of four players to be officially released by Manchester City.
Benjamin Mendy, who has been suspended since August 2021, has also been released by the club.
A jury was unable to reach a conclusive verdict on two charges in January. Mendy is due to stand a re-trial for those charges later this month.
Teenager Terrell Agyemang and defender Rowan McDonald have also been released, while 68 players have been retained by the Premier League champions.
Manchester City are expected to add to their squad this summer, with Croatian pair Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol both linked with potential moves to the Etihad Stadium.
West Ham captain Declan Rice is also subject to transfer interest from the Blues, although Arsenal currently lead the race for the signature of the England midfielder.
Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte and Bernardo Silva are all amongst the list of retained players, but the trio have been linked with potential departures from the Etihad Stadium.
