The shirt numbers selected by Manchester City’s four new signings have been confirmed this week ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Hugo Viana and Manchester City have been immensely busy securing the large bulk of their work on strengthening Pep Guardiola’s side in time for the United States-hosted competition spread across June and July.
Following on from the four signings made at the halfway stage of the ongoing season with Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Vitor Reis, and Abdukodir Khusanov all joining the club, a further four arrivals have been secured.
Bolstering the left-sided full-back position is Rayan Ait-Nouri in a £31 million switch from Wolves, while Tijjani Reijnders adds much-needed flexibility and energy into a variety of midfield positions.
Further forward and Rayan Cherki is likely to be viewed as the direct replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, while Marcus Bettinelli arrives from Chelsea to take the role left behind by third-choice goalkeeper Scott Carson.
Despite only arriving at City in the last few days, the club have confirmed that all four players will be a part of their 27-man squad list that will travel to the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup this week, and as such have each selected a squad number for the tournament.

Starting with Tijjani Reijnders, the Netherlands international has selected the number 4, currently occupied by Kalvin Phillips – who is widely expected to leave the club this summer, but has not been called-up for the Club World Cup.
Other notable names to have worn the number 4 shirt for Manchester City in recent seasons include the legendary former captain and now Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany, as well as Nedum Onuoha.
Advancing in numerical order and third-choice goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli has selected the number 13 for the tournament, succeeding fellow shot-stoppers Zack Steffen and Willy Caballero for the club in this shirt.
Pep Guardiola’s new left-back will take on the number 21 shirt as Rayan Ait-Nouri succeeds Sergio Gomez and Ferran Torres in this particular jersey, but most notably the legendary former Manchester City midfielder, David Silva.
As for Rayan Cherki, the Frenchman has taken on the lesser-used number 29 shirt for the tournament, previously selected by former back-up goalkeeper Richard Wright and the iconic fan favourite, Shaun Wright-Phillips.
However, it does appear as though the shirt numbers selected by the quartet of new Manchester City stars are merely temporary, with the club issuing comment on the selections earlier this week.
“Please note that the squad numbers for the 2025/26 season will be finalised once the summer transfer window has closed,” Manchester City stressed on their official club website.
“They remain subject to change until it closes on Monday 1 September 2025 at 19:00 (UK). Printed shirts cannot be returned or exchanged.”
