Officials from the Etihad Stadium were in attendance at Spain’s 3-1 win over Georgia during the international break, monitoring the performances of one stand-out winger.
Manchester City have only recently strengthened in their wide positions having recruited Belgium international forward Jeremy Doku from Stade Rennes during the summer transfer window, with the player settling almost instantly.
However, City transfer bosses are always looking to remain ahead of the curve when it comes to transfer planning, and their latest mission has seen them readdress the wide roles by assessing the performances of one of Europe’s primary talents.
That is Napoli and Georgia international forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who was a player of interest for Manchester City earlier on in the summer transfer window, with asking prices and a lack of desire to sell ultimately hindering any pursuit of the player.
Now, according to the information of 90Min, it is claimed that Manchester City had scouting representatives in attendance to watch Georgia’s 3-1 defeat to Spain on Sunday evening, with the focus placed on Napoli sensation Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The Premier League champions were not alone in their representation from England’s top-flight, with the report revealing that City officials were joined by representatives from Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United.
Given the player’s exceptional performances over the last 12 to 24 months, it comes as no surprise to also understand that Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG have all been keeping an eye on the winger in addition to clubs from the Premier League.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is looking to build on a remarkable individual campaign with Napoli in Serie A last season, after his 12 goals and 13 assists across 34 Italian top-flight appearances inspired his teammates towards a division crown.
This season has started in similar form with Kvaratskhelia registering three goals and five assists across his 15 appearances in both Serie A and UEFA Champions League action for Napoli.
Whether or not Manchester City opt to turn their scouting into formal interest remains to be seen, however there is an understanding in some quarters that transfer bosses at the Etihad Stadium would be keen to strengthen further in wide positions should the right opportunities arise next summer.
