Despite a public rejection from Pep Guardiola on potential incomings at Manchester City, the Premier League champions appear to be on the verge of a new recruit.

However, as was the case with Brazil international Savinho, Manchester City are discussing within the City Football Group, as they work towards the signing of one of the brightest prospects at New York City FC.

But it has been the subject of possible departures from the Etihad Stadium that have dominated the headlines over the last few days, with public quotes from the likes of Ederson and Julian Alvarez among the latest reports.

Borussia Dortmund are closing in on a deal for Yan Couto, in a package set to come under €30 million and expected to be €25 million with add-ons included. Ederson: “I am happy at Manchester City, comfortable with my teammates. I am enjoying it, too. I’m recovering my physical condition, so I’m calm. Whatever happens is in the hands of God, he knows the right path and I’ll be happy with what he gives me…”

“There’s no definition [on his future]. Hearing this from Pep [that he wants him to stay] is gratifying. Eight seasons with him, many good moments, bad moments. Easy to work with, a football genius. Hearing it from him is nice…” (Fred Caldeira, TNT)

Yan Couto is ‘sitting with his suitcase packed’ in Curitiba, waiting for the breakthrough in the ‘poker game’ between Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City, which should happen this week. The player is ready for the flight at any time. (Patrick Berger, Sky Germany)

Julian Alvarez: “Last season, I was one of the players with the most minutes on the team. But it’s true; in the end, you don’t like being left out of important matches. You want to contribute… I haven’t stopped to think clearly about what I’m going to do. When this is over, I’ll take my time to think about what I want for myself. We’ll see what comes next…” (All About Argentina)

Julián Álvarez’s camp and Manchester City will discuss again about his situation this week. (Fabrizio Romano, X)

Barcelona have come up with a fresh proposal for Joao Cancelo, in which they pay Manchester City a £7 million loan fee for 2024/25, with the obligation of an £18 million transfer at the end of it. Crucially, the La Liga club will also take care of the player’s contract rather than City subsidise part of his £150,000-a-week salary. (Harry Pratt, Daily Star)
