Officials at Manchester City have now agreed upon personal terms with Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The breakthrough between the two parties comes just hours after Manchester City finalised an agreement with AC Milan over their first signing of the ongoing summer transfer window, with Tijjani Reijnders set to join Pep Guardiola’s squad this summer.
A deal for the Dutchman could reach as high as €70 million with all potential bonuses and add-ons factored into the arrangement between the two clubs, but City will be paying an initial up-front transfer fee of €55 million/£46.3 million for the midfielder.
That development has now led to Manchester City bosses moving swiftly on to their next target as they close in on yet another central reinforcement, as eyes have been firmly focussed on finalising a move to Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.
The France international – who is currently away on national team duties this week – has been identified as City’s back-up option after withdrawing interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, who was deemed too expensive as an overall package deal this summer.
Now, according to the information of transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, there is an agreement in place between Manchester City and Rayan Cherki over personal terms, with an official bid to be submitted to Lyon ‘in the next hours’.
Cherki and Reijnders are widely expected to be two of three new faces to link-up with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, as Etihad bosses also eye reinforcement at left-back.
The primary target for the position is understood to be Wolverhampton Wanderers and Algeria international left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, who himself is believed to be keen on a switch and both clubs optimistic over reaching an agreement.
The 23-year-old has long been admired within the Etihad Stadium and Manchester City will be keen to do a deal at around the £35 million mark, with Wolves perhaps holding out for upwards of £45 million inclusive of all potential bonuses and add-ons.
It remains to be seen how the three new signings could affect plans with regards to possible outgoings from Pep Guardiola’s squad, with a number of players facing uncertain futures including John Stones, Jack Grealish, and Bernardo Silva to name a few.
