Manchester City booked their spot in the FIFA Club World Cup final after cruising past Urawa Red Diamonds.
Scorers: Høibråten (OG) 45′, Kovačić 52′, Silva 59′
The best chance of the half fell to Matheus Nunes from close-range, but the midfielder saw his fizzing shot get tipped over the bar by Shusaku Nishikawa in the Urawa goal.
City found their breakthrough after 45 minutes of domination through a stroke of luck however, as Nunes sent a cross towards goal which was subsequently poked into his own net by an embarrassed Marius Høibråten.
City turned up the heat after the break and were rewarded for their pressure inside 10 minutes, as Mateo Kovačić was played in behind before firing home with only the keeper to beat.
The European champions found their third less than 10 minutes, this time benefitting from a deflection, as Bernardo Silva’s effort ricocheted in off of a defender.
With their lead intact, City put their foot on the ball to see out the dying minutes, booking their spot in the tournament’s final. The Premier League champions will face off with Brazilian side Fluminense.
