Manchester City have revealed that Dutch international attacker Vivianne Miedema has undergone knee surgery and she will now be out for an extended period.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official media update from The Cityzens just a short time ago.

Miedema has not been seen in a Manchester City shirt since the club recorded a famous 2-0 victory over reigning European champions FC Barcelona in a UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage fixture at The Joie Stadium last month. It has now been revealed that the player is suffering with a knee injury and she has been required to undergo surgery. Manchester City have not confirmed how long Miedema will be sidelined for but the club haven’t directly indicated that she has ruptured an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).

The 28-year-old has had bad luck with knee injuries in the last couple of years. She sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in December 2022 and required further corrective surgery during last season. Miedema’s most recent surgery saw her sidelined for several weeks rather than months and Manchester City fans will be hoping that the impact is similarly limited this time around.

Miedema joined Manchester City in the summer transfer window after leaving the club’s Barclays Women’s Super League rivals Arsenal. She has scored two goals in five outings for The Cityzens in all competitions.
