In a recent print edition, Sport stated that Manchester City are hoping to sign Barcelona starlet Pau Cubarsi this summer. It has been claimed that the Manuncian giants are showing interest in recruiting the Spanish youngster later this year after failing to do so in the past.

Cubarsi’s Rapid Rise In Spanish Football

The 17-year-old is having a great campaign at the Catalan club after putting in a string of solid performances at the centre of Xavi’s defence. Cubarsi has already made 12 senior appearances for Barca thus far, picking up one assist across various competitions.

The Spanish talent has been a decent presence on the defensive end of the field as he is averaging 1.9 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has also been accurate when distributing the ball from the back after making 91% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Nou Camp will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, Man City would have to launch a convincing offer if they want to get the Spaniard on board at the end of this campaign.

Manchester City Are Hoping To Land Cubarsi: Is He A Prospect For The Future?

Cubarsi is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few crucial interceptions for his team when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and is an accurate passer of the ball as well.

Standing at 1.84m, the Spanish defensive ace can be a strong presence in the air as well. At the moment, Cubarsi is enjoying his foot in Barcelona. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time before he can be consistent in top-flight football.

Still, there is no denying that the Spanish whizkid is a prospect to watch out for in the future. Therefore, Man City boss Pep Guardiola would be wise to go all out to bring him to the Etihad Stadium in the summer transfer period. At 17, Cubarsi has got the potential to become a future star in European football and would be a great acquisition for the Mancunian outfit in the long run.
